Heather & Nolan | Tybee Island Maternity Session

Tybee Island Maternity Session

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of heading down to Tybee Island Beach and photographing one of my favorite couples.

Heather and Nolan.

We have a relationship that goes back many years.

Back when I was just a baby photographer with a baby photography business and nearly every photo shoot terrified me, these two took a chance on me to shoot their wedding.

Of course, I rocked it.

But, I will never forget their wonderful wedding and just how lovely these two were. I instantly fell in love with them.

Now, disclaimer: it is widely known that Ashly McCoy – Wedding Photographer doesn’t do family photos, maternity photos, maternity sessions, family sessions, large groups or just regular photo sessions.

I really only love to shoot Weddings. Because, that is what I love to capture. It is where my heart lay. Family Photography isn’t really my passion.

Unless,

It’s for one of my beautiful couples. Then, I will happily travel to them. Because, there is a bond that is grown during weddings between my couples and I. Some even deeper than others, like with Heather and Nolan here.

For my couples, I will happily do family pictures, outdoor sessions, portrait sessions or just family portraits in general.

Having the opportunity to not only watch my beautiful couple grow, but to then be there to photograph them as their family expands. Maybe from one little baby, then my images hang on their wall signifying the growth of their family.

As with Heather and Nolan, this is their second child.

So, hours before sunset we went down to the beach and photographed this gorgeous family for a lifestyle maternity session. Just merely existing in their beauty.

No meddling. I don’t like to meddle with my family sessions. I just like to capture them in their environment. Happy and in love.

Truthfully, it’s just a way for me to catch up with some old friends, as we talk and enjoy a walk on the beach. I’ll stop and grab a photo if I think I must absolutely have this image, but in truth, I just let a natural sense take over.

This lifestyle, documentary-esque approach to family photography is something I have been trying to incorporate more of in these little sessions. Allowing the entire session to be as easy as the breeze on the sands around us.

Personally, I absolutely love the results of it. This unobtrusive approach creates so much love in the air and atmosphere that it will be hard to ever look at family photography the same way again.

Warmly,

Ashly
