To have a Sea Island wedding is to have an event of the season. The Cloister at Sea Island, a venue with such magnificent and stapled history was the backdrop of this incredible event. With Maggie of MaggieHughesEvents’ touch, this wedding was a dream come true for all parties involved. A full wedding weekend, with all the flair and pageantry one would want from such a stunning couple.

I met Cady on Wednesday afternoon, during which we were able to do her bridal portraits at the Cloister. I chose to shoot her in the ballroom where her reception would be held. She told me a story about how when she was a little girl, she had memories of dancing alone in that very same ballroom. I being one for cosmic romance could not pass up this opportunity to have her alone in the ballroom dancing by herself.

The bridal portraits were so pleasant to shoot. I love these sort of events, when I have the entire venue at my choosing and the bride doesn’t have the full stress of the wedding day on her shoulders. We could choose between shooting on the miles of private beach the Cloister has to offer, or utilize the beach club, or the lodge at Sea Island.

But, we kept it personal and small and used the ballroom. Which was my vision for this bridal.

Next came the rehearsal dinner, which was as lovely as one could possibly expect from a couple such as Cady and Andrew. A family-friendly event, with an outpouring of excitement and love for the sweet couple. By the end of the evening, everyone was fully ready for the magical wedding that would take place.

A Sea Island Wedding

When I tell you a Sea Island Wedding is an event of the season, it’s because it’s true. Sea Island has been a famous private club for over seventy years. A place where socialites could spend their summers or winters horseback riding, taking swings of the golf courses, and partaking in water sports. Or, on this occasion, holding a lovely wedding.

Cady and Andrew’s wedding was reminiscent of the many beautiful events that came before it. A stunning event showered in blues, whites and greens. Cady in her dress was like seeing a vision of beauty walk out of the clouds. Andrew in his tux was a penultimate example of the modern man of class.

These two were just stunning.

With their ceremony being held in the courtyard, it allowed me to play with the natural light. Something I absolutely adore. Many wedding photographers like to shoot at sunset to be given the chance to use the golden hour to create beautiful images for them.

Not me.

I want all the light.

In full light, I can create soft beautiful images that are truly representative of the love and care in the day. It is something that brings me true joy and wonder as a wedding photographer. When I’m going back over these images and tearing up because my friends look so unbelievably beautiful on their day.

Speaking of tears, I must say, I have grown well adapted to capturing ceremonies even though I often find myself crying at them.

It’s simple. I love my couples and seeing them on their big day makes me cry. It’s why I do this.

After the ceremony, I had my associate capture the cocktail party while I pulled the bridal party away for photos. This gathering of friends and family was so pleasant to capture. All acting accordingly as if they had all been lifelong models. It was just wonderful and fluid. Magic, even.

Finally, we made our way to the reception, which was just elegant and classy. One you would expect from such a community of people. There was dancing, cocktails, cake and lovely conversation.

What more could you want?

Lastly, I would like to thank all the wonderful and talented vendors we had working this event with us. Maggie has such a beautiful vision that made her a dream to work with. When paired with florals from Vine Garden Market these two turned what was already a beautiful venue into a masterpiece.

I also had the pleasure of working with Two Arrows Film a pair of luxury wedding videographers who have swiftly moved up my list of favorite videographers to work with.

And, of course, if you’d like to reach out and discuss your own event with me, send us an inquiry!
