It was a beautiful afternoon in downtown Atlanta for Mitzi and Kole’s engagement photos. I had the pleasure of taking them to one of my favorite spots overlooking Centennial Park and more specifically, Skyview Atlanta. A jaw dropping 20-story-high ferris wheel that made for the perfect backdrop for Mitzi and Kole alongside the Atlanta skyline. A stunning view that I am so thankful to have captured.
These Atlanta engagement photos were dreamy, due to Mitzi and Kole’s amazing energy. Their warmth and love was present in every snap of the shutter for their engagement session.
As a wedding photographer, I love engagement sessions as it gives me a chance to meet my couple in person and capture them before their wedding day. This way I can familiarize them with my process and style of capturing photos, while also getting to know them and their story, which I cherish in all of my couples.
Mitzi and Kole are both in the comic book industry, creators and artists, and had dreamed of having their engagement photos in Atlanta. Of course, Atlanta being a place of many wonders, the obvious choice is typically the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Piedmont park, Jackson street bridge or the reflection pool. Many of these places are gorgeous.
But, I knew that these two would be much happier in the location I chose taking in the view of the city while they enjoyed one another.
I lived in Atlanta when I was studying photography at the Atlanta Art Institute. During this time, I found so many wonderful nooks and crannies that I knew I would use eventually. Now, years later, I am able to use those spots that a young Ashly found to make my couples dreams come true.
Atlanta is a city of love, and an LGBTQ bastion in the south and one of the most welcoming places on earth to all people. It is why I hold such a profound love for the city. It’s an arms wide open kind of city where all are accepted. So, of course, it embraced Mitzi and Kole’s love for their photos.
A soft late afternoon breeze settled in while we were up there taking their photos, providing a pleasant and wonderful coolness to the session – all while being bathed in the six pm Atlanta sun. A covered bridge would have never done this couple justice.
I directed them through what I considered prompted poses. A mixture of candid posing, where i allowed them to be themselves and show me their love so I could capture it. This always gives me such wonderful images. It allows me to set the scene and my couples merely need to play their part of a two people in love.
Mitzi and Kole played the role of a life-time.
It was such a lovely session that it was basically over before I knew it. Which is in typical fashion when I find myself loving a photo session. Before we knew it, an hour had passed and the sun was beginning to dip behind the skyline.
But, we got everything we came to capture and I cherished every moment of it.
Alongside this, I absolute love Mitzi and Kole. They are such a wonderful couple and even used their talents to frame a hand drawn photo of my Goldendoodle Alexander! It was such a thoughtful gift and it made me fall in love with them even more.
